Need to know how to make your rental home look better?

So, you've accomplished another one of your bucket list items: renting your own place and living in it alone. However, now you find yourself moved in, unpacked and... in plain apartment. Since it is a rental home you start to think that you will never be able to give the place your personal touch because of the limitations. Well, we have good news for you. You CAN decorate a rental home WITHOUT risking a penny of your security deposit so that you can get back to relishing in the fact that you finally moved out on your own.

First, you want to make a budget and look at what do have right now. This will cut costs and make sure you don't buy in duplicate or overbuy with things you don't need. For example, your mother's old coffee table that she gave you could make for a fabulous focal point just by adding a fresh coat of some bright paint. Pick a color, any color. Second, think of things you want or need. An example of a need would be a mirror so that you can be sure your outfit looks okay before you head out in the morning. A want would be the awesome piece of artwork you saw downtown last week that would look great in your living room. If it fits the budget, great! If not, look for nice, less expensive items at your local department store for some cool knock-offs.

Finally, think color, structure and style. Who are you? A good way to start is to take a look at your closet. Many of us tend to wear a certain color and not even notice it. Also, by color we don't necessarily mean the walls. Landlords may not allow you to paint the walls, so definitely check before you do any of that. However, you can add color to your rental home with decorative pillows, rugs, wall art, curtains, flowers and more. Pinterest is also a great site that users share lots of DIY (do it yourself) activities that can save money and give you unique items for home decoration.
